Childhood Cancer Canada’s Evening of Discovery was an enormous success with over 70 guests in attendance at this exclusive event in support of leading edge, Canadian research. Held at the historic Barberian’s 20,000 bottle wine cellar, guests enjoyed exquisite wines from around the world and delectable hors d’oeuvres.

Dr. David Malkin, the C17 Research Chair, inspired our guests and highlighted the incredible need to invest in research to ensure that children are exposed to kinder and gentler treatments that will not only cure them but also leave them with an improved quality of life into adulthood.

Following Dr. Malkin’s speech, Wilson Stephenson, one of our five 2011 TEVA Survivor Scholarship recipients, moved guests by sharing his own journey with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and his long road to recovery. His desire to understand his own experiences with cancer incited him to help others through his research.

Childhood Cancer Canada is proud to be an active partner of the C17, the Council of Pediatric Hematologists and Oncologists. The council represents the pediatric oncology leaders from all of Canada’s 17 children’s hospitals and treatment facilities and dictates the research agenda for the nation. To conclude the evening, President and CEO, Megan Davidson was thrilled to present Dr. Paul Grundy, the Chair of the C17, with a donation of $2.5 million to highlight our continued partnership in support of critical childhood cancer research.

Childhood Cancer Canada would like to thank all of our guests for their generous support as it is integral in helping Childhood Cancer Canada create more victories. Without the support of our donors, we could not continue to do the work that we do and help the 10,000 children in Canada who are bravely battling cancer.
