Overview
When it comes to dealing with cancer or any major disease, there's nothing like talking to someone who's been through it, someone who's experienced what you're going through.
Parent and survivor support groups provide invaluable assistance to families and their children through their cancer journey and beyond. Many remain with the group long after recovery, so that they can help others.
The Childhood Cancer Foundation Candlelighters Canada knows that helping support groups form, grow and remain active is vital to the wellbeing of families facing that awful announcement that their child has cancer.
To this end, effective October 1 st 2005 the Foundation will have in place an Infrastructure Support Fund to provide financial assistance to support groups. The Fund provides "seed" money for such things as the initial meetings of groups, meeting space rental, information flyers and for communications needs such as teleconferences. The Fund is not designed to provide all the funding necessary to run a group, but will help ensure that the fundamentals are in place so that meetings can occur and the group can be maintained.
Caring Bridge
Families can use Caring Bridge to set up a Web Site for a child with cancer. Many families use a web site as a way to keep their family and friends updated on their child's cancer journey. An easy way to do this, at no cost, is through caringbridge.org
